Sandmann Family Day Care received the Healthy Apple Award in April 2019 as a recognition for our excellence in child care nutrition and physical activity.

Sandmann Family Day Care is a licensed, bilingual (German and English) daycare in San Francisco’s Noe Valley neighborhood (between Noe and Sanchez Street). We provide loving and professional care for children between the ages of 15 months to 48 months. The program is full day and runs from 8:00am to 5:00pm, from Monday till Friday. Our play- and music-based, mixed-age approach aims to create a fun and educational environment for the children.

We have a staff of teachers who are German native speakers and English native speakers with a combined experience of over 30 years in childhood care. Our child to teacher ratio is at the very least 4:1.

Each month revolves around a theme such as “viele viele bunte Farben” (all the bright colors) or “Beeren und Früchte” (berries and fruit), where the activities explore the topic in multifaceted ways. A day at Sandmann Family Day Care encompasses a wide range of activities that are intended to stimulate the children individually and also teach them about group socialization. The daily schedule includes everything from morning circle time with singing and story time to exploring their environment on sensory levels. We lay special emphasis on musical education where the children are encouraged to dance and sing German and English songs. At times we may also host special instructors on topics such as art or dance.

The facilities consist of large and roomy indoor spaces with a separate bathroom, as well as a spacious, safe and sunny outdoor space. As part of our daily schedule we provide a warm lunch and several healthy and nutritious snacks. The children learn to participate in “chores” such as putting on a bib and sit down together at the table, and learn to follow a routine such as washing their hands before mealtime. The schedule provides ample time for free play both indoors and outdoors. Sandmann Family Day Care also goes on field trips with the children.
